Dear Client,
Greetings from Beacon!!!
As a part of our continuous communication we feel immense pleasure to keep you updated regarding your marine cargo policy. We would like to inform you about a recent incident which may further provoked General Average declaration by Its Ship-owner.
On Tuesday, 26.03.2024, the 9,000 T.E.U ship DALI crashed into a support pylon of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, (Baltimore) effectively blocking the entrance to the port and causing significant damage to the ship and cargo.
Please note that general average is a voluntary act to save ship and cargo from operation of perils during a voyage. In an effort to save ship and cargo there may be sacrifices or expenses involved like towing of ship to some other ports, firefighting expenses, Jettisoning of cargo etc, These expenses to be shared by all the cargo owner/ship owners and whose interest (Cargo) has been saved.
After incurring all these expenses and sacrifices, master of the ship exercises a lien over all the shipments. To get it released from shipping line, it is required to provide average bond, Average Guarantee from cargo insurer and counter guarantee form duly signed from cargo owner.
We at Beacon have managed many such GA Claims successfully in past. So we are fully aware of the process and have ensured smooth delivery of cargo for our clients.
Please make it sure that if any communication from your shipping line related to general average has been received by you, please let us know to take further action into this regard.
